How can I become a certified Mystery Shopper?
Please visit the Mystery Shopping Providers Association for details on the certificating process. http://mysteryshop.org/certification.php
The MSPA recognizes that Mystery Shopping is a profession, not just a hobby. As in the case of other professions we believe that a means of addressing shopper standardization, education and certification is necessary. In response to this need, we have developed an on-line Silver Certification program and a more in-depth Gold Certificate program, which is offered as an in-person workshop and as a DVD.
Silver Certification
The Online Silver Certification Course has been in existence since 2003 and has certified over 50,000 shoppers since that time. The MSPA has responded to the comments and suggestions from many shoppers and shopping companies to make the course more extensive and educational, and in doing so have expanded it greatly. The MSPA is proud to offer our new and educationally improved 2008 Online Silver Certification course to every shopper seeking to be the best in their chosen field.
Gold Certification
In 2002, the MSPA debuted our first ever Gold Certification Workshop. The certification program was very successful and proved to be in high demand from both shoppers and Mystery Shopping companies alike. In 2003, we took the in-person workshop nationwide with an aggressive schedule of visiting 23 cities across the US. In early 2008, we launched the Gold DVD program and cut back on the in-person workshops, scheduling them to coincide with a new quarterly Shopper Educational Conference (beginning mid-2008).
Scam Alert and How to report a scam
The Mystery Shopping Providers Association has alerted its members of scam. In response to that, we in turn are alerting our shoppers accordingly. You may visit the MSPA website at www.mysteryshop.org
The Mystery Shopping Providers Association (MSPA), the largest professional trade association dedicated to improving service quality using anonymous resources, wants to warn consumers of a new version of a check cashing scam.
In the past, the scam used a fake cashier's check to take thousands of dollars from consumers. Recently, consumers have received what appears to be a regular check from a legitimate mystery shopping company, but the check is actually forged.
Consumers receive a large-sum check, typically between $1,000 and $5,000. They are asked to evaluate the service at a variety of stores and wire a portion of the money back to the sender while also evaluating the wiring service. Consumers are told to keep a portion of the money as payment.
The name of a real company usually appears on the check as well as real account information. The forgery of the check is discovered a few days after it is deposited, and the consumer is held responsible for the entire amount of the check.
"Scammers are taking advantage of the allure of Mystery Shopping to take money from consumers' hands," said MSPA Executive Director John Swinburn. "MSPA has long recognized the problem and is constantly working to make consumers aware of new scams related to Mystery Shopping."
MSPA urges consumers who receive similar offers to file a report by contacting the following:
